Precipitate coarsening in multicomponent systems

چکیده

Expressions to obtain composition shifts due to capillarity are presented when the chemical potential shifts of the precipitate phase are taken into account. These are applied to calculate the precipitate coarsening kinetics in multicomponent systems, showing dependence on the solution thermodynamics followed by the continuous phase. 2002 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. on behalf of Acta Materialia Inc.

The temporal evolution of the decomposition of a concentrated multicomponent Fe–Cu-based steel

The nucleation (to a limited extent), growth and coarsening behavior of Cu-rich precipitates in a concentrated multicomponent Fe– Cu-based steel aged at 500 C from 0.25 to 1024 h is investigated. The temporal evolution of the precipitates, heterophase interfaces, matrix compositions and precipitate morphologies are presented. With increasing time, Cu partitions to the precipitates, Ni, Al and M...

Nano-sized precipitate stability and its controlling factors in a NiAl-strengthened ferritic alloy

Coherent B2-ordered NiAl-type precipitates have been used to reinforce solid-solution body-centered-cubic iron for high-temperature application in fossil-energy power plants. In this study, we investigate the stability of nano-sized precipitates in a NiAl-strengthened ferritic alloy at 700-950 °C using ultra-small angle X-ray scattering and electron microscopies. Here we show that the coarsenin...

Slow Motion in One-dimensional Cahn-morral Systems

In this paper we study one-dimensional Cahn-Morral systems, which are the multicomponent analogues of the Cahn-Hilliard model for phase separation and coarsening in binary mixtures. In particular, we examine solutions that start with initial data close to the preferred phases except at finitely many transition points where the data has sharp transition layers, and we show that such solutions ma...

Chemical precipitation and characterization of multicomponent Perovskite Oxide nanoparticles – possible cathode materials for low temperature solid Oxide fuel cell

A set of multicomponent perovskite oxide nanoparticles based on La1-xSrxCo1-yFeyO3-δ(LSCF) were prepared by a simple chemical precipitation method for application in low temperature solid oxide fuel cells (LT-SOFC) as cathode materials.  The precursor materials used in this synthesis were lanthanum nitrate hexahydrate [La(NO3)<su...
